Kevin Preston, MSW Trainee

Kevin is a soon-to-retire U.S. Air Force member, active firefighter, paramedic, and Master's level therapist trainee. He provides individual therapy focused on service members, veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, and their families. Kevin supports clients dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, workplace challenges, trauma, and relationship issues. He understands the unique weight of service—whether from traumatic events, moral injury, or the daily buildup of stress in demanding roles.

If you feel overwhelmed by your experiences or isolated in your struggles, know that you are not alone. Drawing on his 25 years of military and public safety service—including four combat deployments as a flight medic and leadership roles such as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9), Fire Captain for a large urban fire department, and Critical Incident Stress Management team leader—he offers a profound understanding of the pressures faced by those in helping professions. Additionally, his background as a paramedic and peer support specialist allows him to genuinely connect with clients experiencing stress, crisis, trauma, or transitions.

Kevin aims to create a safe, collaborative space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered. He believes a therapist walks alongside the client, offering tools, perspective, and encouragement while respecting the client as the expert of their own life. This approach helps his clients uncover their capacity to heal, adapt, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

In sessions, Kevin integrates a strengths-based approach with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, and self-compassion techniques. He concentrates on leveraging existing strengths, building resilience, and creating practical steps for growth. Clients often describe his style as conversational, collaborative, calm, and approachable, maintaining a professional yet friendly demeanor. Currently earning his MSW with a focus on military, veteran, and trauma-informed practice, Kevin feels honored to serve those committed to helping others, their families, and their communities.
